In many cases, successful dental implant procedures require greater preparation. At North County Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry, patient comfort, patient safety, and successful outcomes are what makes us leaders in dental implant therapy.
Our training in the latest techniques and the use of the latest technology is what sets us apart from other implant dentists.
All of our implant procedures are planned through the use of our in-office 3D ICAT® CT scanner. This technology allows us to virtually place implants in your mouth before we actually perform the procedure for you. We also utilize this technology to perform CT guided implant placement. This technology ensures that dental implants are placed exactly where we planned and allows us to place implants in places where other dentists thought that it might not be possible.
What to Expect During Your Dental Implant Procedure
Take the First Step Towards a Brilliant, New Smile
Comprehensive exam with one of our experienced doctors to find out what options are right for you
CT scan of your mouth
Careful virtual planning of your procedure
Fabrication of implant guides if necessary
Placement of dental implants
Healing period for integration of dental implants to the jaw
Careful examination and discussion about your implant options is always the first step. Having a chance for us to get to know you will help us design a treatment that fits your needs and your budget. It is also important for you to get to know your doctor and our team so that you are comfortable in our office.
We begin by taking high-definition 3D CT scan with our iCAT® CT scanner, and creating a 3D model of your mouth and important anatomical structures. Careful planning and preparation is done in advance with your personalized 3D model to assure your dental implants are placed precisely where they should be.
Step 2:What to Expect the Day of Surgery
You can expect to discuss all the necessary consent forms, prescriptions, pre- and post-operative instructions, and financial arrangements the week before your procedure. Our team will greet you on the day of your surgery and make sure you are comfortable and relaxed before administering dental anesthesia.
Teeth that require extraction will be removed before our doctors execute a carefully planned procedure to insert your implants with accuracy. If planned, your temporary teeth will be placed before you awake.
Step 3:Post-Operative Care
Dental Implants require some additional attention until the gum tissue surrounding the implant fully heals. Our doctors will provide detailed instructions on your diet and care moving forward to ensure your smile is properly maintained. You can expect to meet with your doctor one week after your implant procedure.
Step 4:Healing Phase
During the next 4-6 months the dental implant will be integrating with bone of your jaw.
Osseointegration is essential for allowing dental implants to become the strong foundation for your new smile. You may continue to wear your temporary smile during this healing phase. It is imperative that you continue to utilize a soft diet even though you may have temporary teeth. If you attempt to function on dental implants before they are completely healed, you may disrupt the integration of the implant with the jaw bone.
Step 5:Planning Your New SMile
When the dental implants are completely integrated with the jaw bone, we will begin planning what your permanent teeth are going to look like. At this stage it is important to communicate what you want your smile to look like. If you like or dislike something about your temporaries, now is the time to speak up!
Step 6:Delivery of Your New Smile
On the day of the delivery of your new smile, we will first do a try on to ensure proper function. You will also have the opportunity to give your final approval on the way it looks. Once delivered, we will go over how to take care of your new smile and what your personalized maintenance plan will be.
