Teeth Straightening: Frequently Asked Questions
Cosmetic Dentist Serving San Jose, Sunnyvale and the Bay Area
How can I straighten my crooked teeth?
The traditional method for straightening teeth is with orthodontics (braces). This usually takes years, and if your teeth are unattractive at the start, you could end up with straight teeth that still don’t look great. Porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns can accomplish much more than braces alone. Sometimes they are used in combination with braces. Of course, if your teeth already look good and only need straightening, then braces are the way to go.
How long will it take to straighten my teeth?
Teeth straightening with veneers and/or crowns can take as little as two weeks. When braces are involved it is usually two to three years.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a method of straightening teeth without braces. Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that are custom-molded to fit you. The virtually invisible aligners gradually reposition your teeth into a smile you'll be proud of.
- Remove your aligners to eat, brush and floss
- Change aligners every two weeks
- Your teeth move little by little
- Regular progress checks with your dentist or orthodontist
- Results often in 6 months to 1 year
