Wisdom TeethVista, CA
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to fill in the mouth. When they align properly and gum tissue is healthy, wisdom teeth do not have to be removed. Generally, this does not happen.
Are your wisdom teeth causing you discomfort?
For most people, wisdom teeth just do not fit properly in the mouth. As the last teeth that grow in, wisdom teeth may become impacted or only partially break through the gumline. This can lead to eventual gum disease, tooth decay, pain, bone loss, and even problems with the entire alignment of the bite and jawbone. The answer for people of all ages is wisdom teeth removal. In Oceanside, CA, our dental team uses technologically advanced equipment and techniques to make sure that every wisdom tooth removal protocol is handled comfortably, professionally and effectively. From beginning to end, we will make sure you are in excellent hands.
Dr. Henninger explains the removal of Wisdom Teeth
These poorly positioned impacted teeth can cause many problems. When they are partially out, the opening around the teeth allows bacteria to grow and will eventually cause an infection. This results in swelling, stiffness, pain, and illness. The pressure from the impacted wisdom teeth may move other teeth and disrupt the orthodontic or natural alignment of teeth. The most serious problem occurs when tumors or cysts form around the impacted wisdom teeth, resulting in the destruction of the jawbone and healthy teeth. Removal of the offending impacted teeth usually resolves these problems. Early removal is recommended to avoid such future problems and to decrease the surgical risk involved with the procedure.
Using an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, we will evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and predict if there are present or may be future problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Patients are generally first evaluated in the mid-teenage years by their dentist, orthodontist or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
All outpatient surgery is performed under appropriate anesthesia to maximize patient comfort.
In most cases, the removal of wisdom teeth is performed under IV Sedation. These options, as well as the surgical risks, will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed. Once the teeth are removed, the gums are sutured. To help control bleeding, bite down on the gauze placed in your mouth. You will rest under our supervision in the office until you are ready to be taken home. Upon discharge, your postoperative kit will include postoperative instructions, a prescription for pain medication, antibiotics, and a follow-up appointment in one week for suture removal.
Our services are provided in an environment of optimum safety that utilizes modern monitoring equipment and team who are experienced in anesthesia techniques.Whether you need wisdom teeth removal in Oceanside, CA, or the extraction of another tooth or set of teeth, trust in the leading edge team at North County Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry.

Standard dental implants can restore the function of missing teeth and preserve the jawbone. The three major components of implants closely mimic natural teeth and with proper care, these implants can last a lifetime, making them a popular choice among dentists and patients. Natural teeth are rigid, calcified structures that protrude past the gum line…
When a dentist recommends dental implants, it is usually because a patient is missing one or more teeth. Implants essentially replace the roots of teeth, providing a secure holding for a crown, or artificial tooth, to be placed. This procedure may take several months, but the patient can benefit from chewing and biting normally again,…
Dental implants offer individuals the opportunity to regain a fully functioning set of teeth. The aftercare procedures are imperative to ensure the surgical area heals and implant osseointegration occurs. Osseointegration is the process by which the bone in the jaw fuses with the implant posts. This creates the solid foundation needed to support the apparatus.…
